Maintenance

Puzzle Floor™ is not only durable but is also extremely easy to clean and maintain. Regular cleaning requires little more than sweeping and or/vacuuming, with occasional use of a professional wood floor cleaning product.

Simple maintenance procedures will provide you with years of trouble free and hygienic living.

  1. If using a vacuum, use special hardwood floor attachments. Never use an upright vacuum with beater bars. The bars can create dents in the floor’s finish.
  2. You can also use a soft broom or a damp (never wet) mop for basic cleaning.
  3. Footprints, marks and more stubborn dirt can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Make sure that the cloth is well wrung out. Never use wet rags or excessive amounts of water.
  4. Never use wax, oil-based detergents, abrasive cleaners or other “strong” chemical cleaning compounds on your hardwood floor. If you do, you may dull or damage the factory finish and/or leave a greasy film that can make future maintenance more difficult.
  5. Clean up spills immediately with a slightly dampened towel and let the floor dry completely.
  6. Use specially manufactured soft plastic or fabric-faced glides or felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scuffing and scratches. Clean the glides or felt pads regularly to prevent dust and grit from becoming embedded.
  7. If your room is a high traffic room, consider using throw rugs at the entrance to help trap dirt that would otherwise be ground into the floor's finish.
  8. Do not use sheet vinyl or tile floor care products on wood floors. Self-polishing acrylic waxes cause wood to become slippery and appear dull quickly.
  9. Avoid walking on Puzzle Floor™ with cleats, sport shoes or high heels. A 125-pound women walking in high heels has an impact of 2,000 pounds per square inch. An exposed heel nail can exert up to 8,000 pounds per square inch. This kind of impact will dent any hardwood floor.
  10. Depending on the location, indoor air humidity can change dramatically from season to season. Since wood naturally shrinks as it dries and swells as it picks up moisture, it is important to maintain the humidity within a range of 40 to 50% to reduce the movement of your hardwood floor. This may require the use of a humidifier during dry winter months and a dehumidifier or air conditioner during high humidity summer months.
  11. Protect your floor from direct sunlight or any intense artificial light. Over time, this may cause discoloration of the floor, especially on light color floors. This phenomenon occurs with all wood products.
